Mr. Whitelaw Reid to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received January 16.)
THE American Ambassador presents his compliments to Sir Edward Grey, and under telegraphic instructions from his Government begs to inquire whether His Majesty's Government would have any objection to inviting Italy and Austria-Hungary to attend the Opium Conference at Shanghae.
Mr. Whitelaw Reid would be much obliged if Sir Edward Grey would cause him to be informed of the decision of His Majesty's Government in this regard at the earliest
possible moment.
